 'Guests' Invited to Use Lab's Supercomputer
 The lab now has a "guest account" that students and teachers across the nation can use to access one of the world's most powerful computers, a Cray X-MP. The guest account gives computer literate teachers and students with network or modem access the ability to run simulations and models on the computer. The guest account is part of the National Education Bulletin Board System.

 Journal of Geophysical Research Taps Lab Scientist
 Lab geophysicist Alfred G. Duba has been named associate editor of the Journal of Geophysical Research. The publication is the primary technical journal of the American Geophysical Union. It contains original contributions on the physics and chemistry of the earth, its environment and the solar system. Duba is presently working on the German Deep Drilling Project in Europe, in which scientists are hoping to drill to a depth of 10 kilometers. Duba's other lab projects include a study of conductivity in carbon-bearing rocks found deep in the earth.

 Child Care Center Wins National Award
 The lab's Children's Center and its child care activities have been recognized as 1993's most outstanding employee services program by the National Employee Services and Recreation Association. The Children's Center, a service of the lab's independent Recreation Association, won the prestigious award over other employee services programs sponsored by corporation and government agencies across the country. The center provides child care for 130 children ranging in age from 14 months to 12 years. In addition, the center serves as a training site for child development students from nearby Las Positas Community College.
