LAST PIECE OF STEEL TO BE PLACED AT SOUTHERN EXPRESSWAY
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and contractor Dick

Enterprises will celebrate the placing of the last piece of structural steel on the Southern Expressway, (New PA Route 60) on Thursday, April 30, at 10 a.m. with a flag-raising ceremony.
The event signals a significant milestone in completing what experts have called, "The single most important economic development project in Pennsylvania."
The Southern Expressway is a 7.5-mile, $219 million limited-access- highway to connect the Airport Parkway and the Beaver Valley Expressway to the new Greater Pittsburgh International Airport Terminal. The highway opening is scheduled to coincide with the terminal opening in October.
The last piece of steel to be hoisted in place tomorrow is part of one of 13 structures built for the project and will eventually carry southbound traffic on the Southern Expressway back onto Route 60 and northbound toward Moon Township.
The White Swan Interchange is a 3.4-mile section of the expressway that began construction in November of 1990 at a cost of $41.6 million.
A large American flag will ride up with the 100-foot beam as it's set in place.
Directions to location: North on Airport Parkway (PA Route 60) toward Greater Pittsburgh Airport, exit Coraopolis/Sewickley Exit, right at stop sign, right over bridge, left off of bridge to PA Route 60 Southbound (back onto Airport Parkway), two orange construction signs will be on right shoulder of Parkway toward Pittsburgh, first sign is "Road Construction 1/2 mile," at next sign, "Ressurection Cemetery Next Right," make a right turn. Follow road till "Road Closed" sign, go through closure until you come to a stop sign at the foot of the hill. Go through a second "Road Closed" sign and straight ahead into the construction zone park toward the left hand side.
