LAST CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR THE EAST OHIO GAS' 1993 $10,000 NEIGHBORHOOD ENRICHMENT AWARD

CLEVELAND, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- East Ohio Gas reminds non-profit community groups and organizations that made a major contribution to the revitalization of a northeast Ohio neighborhood in 1992 that the deadline for submitting applications for the $10,000 Neighborhood Enrichment Award is rapidly approaching. The deadline for the 1993 award is April 30, 1993.
Neighborhood revitalization groups from throughout East Ohio Gas' five service areas including Akron, Ashtabula, Canton, and Warren/Youngstown are eligible to apply for the unrestricted grant. Five finalists will be selected to compete for the $10,000 top award. The remaining four finalists will each receive an unrestricted grant of $2,500. Winners will be announced in June.
The Neighborhood Enrichment Award was established in 1991 to honor a community organization which made a major contribution to the revitalization of a northeast Ohio neighborhood. Funded with stockholder money, the Neighborhood Enrichment Award is provided through the East Ohio Gas Company Fund, part of the Consolidated Natural Gas (CNG) Foundation.
Organizations that compete for the award must be located in East Ohio Gas' service area, have a governing board of a majority of residents or business people from the group's service area, be a tax- exempt IRS 501(c)(3) organization and have a neighborhood focus. The groups must have completed the project in 1992 and maintained their goal of community and neighborhood development.
Proposals should include the organization's name, a contact person, an address, a description of the project, reasons the program has been a success, the community's acceptance of the project and an overall program evaluation. There are no pre-printed application forms. However, descriptive program brochures are available.
Judges will evaluate groups on creativity, organizational input, market impact, market change and the replication potential of the project.
In addition to a written proposal, organizations should submit support materials including before and after photographs, videotapes, printed literature and/or artwork. All support materials will be returned to senders. Entries should be mailed to Jerry Sullivan, Associate Director, Corporate Relations, East Ohio Gas Company, P.O. Box 5759, Cleveland, Ohio, 44101-0759.
For additional information about nomination procedures or a brochure, contact Jerry Sullivan, associate director, corporate relations, 216-736-6212. To avoid long-distance charges, applicants can call their local East Ohio Gas number and ask to be transferred to Ext. 5386.
Cleveland-based East Ohio Gas is the largest subsidiary of Consolidated Natural Gas Company, headquartered in Pittsburgh. The 2,500 employees of East Ohio Gas serve more than one million residential, commercial and industrial customers in 270 northeast Ohio communities.
