LASSNER RETURNS TO GALE RESEARCH AS PRESIDENT/CEO
DETROIT, July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Officials at The Thomson

Corporation's Book and Reference Group announced today that Keith M. Lassner has been appointed to president and chief executive officer of Detroit-based Gale Research Inc. Lassner was most recently president and CEO of Research Publications International (RPI) of Woodbridge, Conn., another Thomson operating company serving the needs of libraries and the intellectual property community.
Before joining RPI, Lassner spent several years with Gale as its executive vice president of Marketing and Corporate Development.
"I'm very pleased with this appointment," said Thomas Paul, president and CEO of the Thomson Book and Reference Group (TB/RG). "Keith brings 16 years of solid reference and library experience to this key position."
In addition to his new assignment at Gale, Lassner will head the newly formed Library Division within TB/RG.
Lassner headed Gale's Marketing Division from 1987 to 1991 and pioneered such ventures as the Gale Advantage Plan, an innovative customer retention program; Visible Ink Press, a successful trade reference publishing unit; and VideoHound, an electronic video catalog now being co-ventured by Gale, Blockbuster Entertainment and IBM.
Lassner has also held senior positions with Springhouse Corporation where he was publisher and executive director of the Springhouse Publishing Company and Prentice-Hall where he managed institutional sales. Prior to his publishing career, he was acquisitions librarian at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
Lassner, wife Jane, and their two children will relocate from Connecticut to Michigan.
Founded in 1953, Detroit-based Gale Research Inc. is North America's leading reference publisher. An operating unit of Toronto-based Thomson Corporation (Toronto: TOC), Gale and its subsidiaries -- The Taft Group, St. James Press and Visible Ink Press -- serve the information needs of the world's libraries, businesses and general readers in print, online and on CD-ROM.
