LASERTECHNICS COMPLETES INVESTMENT IN PRINTIS SARL OF PARIS
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Lasertechnics, Inc. (NASDAQ: LASX) announced it has completed the investment in Printis SARL, Paris.
With funds provided in a financing arrangement with its three largest shareholders, David and Isaac Blech and Wolfensohn Associates L.P., the company purchased a 43 percent equity interest in Printis SARL. The cost of the equity investment in Printis is approximately $279,000. This strategic investment will facilitate the completion of the development of the unique, high-resolution, dual-mode color printer, StarBurst. A representative of Lasertechnics will become one of two managing directors of Printis SARL.
Printis SARL is a technology company specializing in the design and development of printing products, especially related to thermal and thermal transfer technologies. For several years Printis has been developing high technology printers for civil and military applications. "Lasertechnics, as a strategic partner, will bring Printis an international dimension and an expansion of our product development and market opportunities," says Jean-Luc Poutchnine, Printis chairman and president. Poutchnine continues, "StarBurst is the starting point of a partnership which will generate a full range of products dedicated to the electronic imaging industry."
Louis F. Bieck Jr., president and CEO of Lasertechnics, said, "This partnership, which involves both product and market development, provides us an excellent opportunity to leverage the expertise we have developed in our gray scale printer business. The agreement with Printis provides us with exclusive marketing rights in most areas of the world as well as certain manufacturing rights to StarBurst and derivative products. We are extremely excited about the market opportunities this cutting edge dual-mode technology will present to us especially in applications like desktop publishing, CAD/CAM, and business graphics."
The company's Imaging Business unit also manufactures the DIR, a laser based printer that delivers high resolution, continuous tone black and white digital images in near real time.
