LASERTECHNICS ANNOUNCES VAR AGREEMENT WITH INLINE OF BERLIN
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Lasertechnics, Inc. (NASDAQ: LASX), today announced that it has reached a VAR agreement with INLINE of Berlin to supply its DIR Gray Scale Printer in electronic news picture processing systems through its German distributor, Helfmann Computer Systems of Munich.
"Two systems have been installed at the Der Spiegel and Hannover'sche Zeitung newspapers, but the potential market is in the hundreds as INLINE expands its marketing activity throughout Europe and the Europe news agencies change to digital transmission systems," explained Ronald Reed, Lasertechnics imaging systems manager.
INLINE offers the (1) News Picture Server, (2) Universal Electronic Picture Processing Platform, and (3) Scan Line High Performance News Picture Input and Transmission systems for picture reception, processing and output. These high performance and storage capacity systems were specifically developed for the requirements of the press market, and offer the latest innovative technology and simple operation.
The DIR is being used for hardcopy output with the INLINE electronic picture desks. The DIR is a high resolution, continuous tone printer that provides photographic quality monochrome digital prints in seconds.
"Electronic picture desk systems are rapidly becoming a widely accepted and utilized newsroom tool at most newspapers. This is the future of news photography," commented Louis Bieck, president of Lasertechnics. "It represents a significant new opportunity for the DIR in an application that is particularly sensitive to the level of image quality that only a digital printer like the DIR can provide. In Europe alone, its potential monochrome market is well in excess of $5 million and with the advent of color the potential market could increase tenfold to $50 million. This will be an area of prime concentration for our high resolution StarBurst dual-mode color product planned for introduction in the third quarter of '92. We are presently exploring similar opportunities in the Far East and South America."
