LASERSCOPE RECEIVES JAPANESE CLEARANCE TO IMPORT PRODUCTS
SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Laserscope (NASDAQ: LSCP) announced today that its Japanese distributor, Hoya Corp., has received clearance from the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare (MHW) to import Laserscope's Surgical Laser Systems into Japan.
With the clearance, Laserscope will begin exporting its proprietary KTP/532(TM) and KTP/YAG(TM) Surgical Laser Systems to Japan from its San Jose manufacturing facility.
Japan represents the second largest surgical laser market in the world following the U.S. market.
Hoya Corp. said "Laserscope's dual-wavelength fiber-optic laser systems offer the best technology and reliability in the world marketplace. We are very pleased to be able to import this unique technology into Japan."
"The MHW clearance," said Robert V. McCormick, Laserscope's senior vice president, marketing and field operations, "following our recent clearances in Germany, is an important milestone in our strategy to have an active presence in each of the world's economic arenas -- the United States, Europe and the Pacific Rim. Hoya's complementary technology and marketing strength will be an invaluable asset as we enter this key market."
"Laserscope's systems," said Hoya, "are available with unique instrumentation packages that will allow practitioners in virtually every surgical specialty in Japan to fully utilize the systems for open, endoscopic and micro surgery.
"Laserscope," Hoya continued, "is dedicated to designing superior products and to continual investment in new product development. This fits nicely with our own philosophy and prepares us for the future as well as today."
Laserscope markets its products to hospitals and out-patient surgical centers in the United States and the U.K. through its own direct sales force and through exclusive distributor arrangements in Europe, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Australia and Singapore, in addition to its exclusive arrangement with Hoya Corp. in Japan.
The company's systems are exceptionally well suited to minimally invasive applications in gynecology, urology, dermatology, neurosurgery, back and general surgery, and ear, nose and throat surgery.
