LASERMASTER TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES LEXMARK TO RELEASE PRINTERS USING
 LASERMASTER'S HIGH-SPEED GDI PRINTING TECHNOLOGY
MINNEAPOLIS, June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- LaserMaster Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: LMTS) announced that its high-speed technology for Windows will be incorporated in Lexmark International Inc.'s print accelerator for Windows, to be demonstrated this week at PC Expo in New York City.
Ordinary printer drivers must translate Windows' internal commands, called Graphical Display Interface (GDI), to a page description language like PostScript or PCL before they can send them to the printer, where they are processed and printed. LaserMaster's high-speed GDI printing technology dramatically improves Windows printing speeds because it processes the GDI commands directly, without having to first translate the commands to another language. The GDI printing technology creates an electronic image of the page in the host computer's memory which is quickly sent to the printer using Lexmark's "Fastbytes" parallel port interface built into the IBM LaserPrinter 4029 Series.
"Getting information from the computer to the printer is a fundamental issue for high-speed Windows printing," Larry Lukis, LaserMaster's chief technical officer, said. "Lexmark's 'Fastbytes' parallel port interface allowed us to easily adapt our high-speed GDI printing technology to the 4029 with no hardware changes required."
With the "Fastbytes" technology and LaserMaster's direct GDI Windows driver, Lexmark's 4029 laser printer will now print Windows pages much faster than comparable laser printers.
LaserMaster Technologies, Inc. designs, manufactures and markets high resolution, high performance printing systems for the microcomputer market. The LaserMaster product line features the company's proprietary patented TurboRes(R) resolution enhancement technology and patent- pending FastPort(TM) for high-speed parallel port communications.
