LASERMASTER TECHNOLOGIES, INC. REPORTS RECORD QUARTERLY AND DECEMBER SALES; INCREASE IN UNITY TYPESETTER SALES REDUCES ANTICIPATED LOSS

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- LaserMaster Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: LMTS) reported today net sales for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1992 were $17.5 million, an increase of 22 percent over net sales of $14.3 million for the same quarter last year, and the highest quarterly sales in the company's history. Sales of approximately $6.6 million in December also represent record monthly sales. The company announced a loss of $719,000, or $.08 per share for the quarter, compared to a loss of $357,000, or $0.04 per share, for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1991. Losses for the quarter were attributed primarily to entry level printer sales below original expectation. The company indicated that performance for the quarter was better than analysts anticipated after announcement in early December of steps being taken to reposition the company's WinPrint product line. The improved performance is primarily a result of profitable operations in December, growth from the previous quarter in TurboRes Typesetting sales and improved European operations.
According to Mel Masters, Lasermaster's CEO, "Our flagship product for the quarter was our new, large paper size Unity 1200XL typesetter. The Unity 1200XL has already earned a very attractive market position, as demonstrated by immediate sales growth since its introduction in September. Unity 1200XL sales were $7.1 million during the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1992, up from $1.6 million during the prior quarter this
