LASERMASTER TECHNOLOGIES, INC. ANNOUNCES JAPANESE AGREEMENTS KANEMATSU GROUP AND PHOENIX DISTRIBUTE LM TYPESETTER PRODUCTS

MINNEAPOLIS, May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- LaserMaster Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: LMTS) announced today that it has entered into separate agreements with Kanematsu Corporation and Phoenix International, Inc. to distribute LaserMaster Unity 1200XLJ plain-paper typesetters in the Japanese market. Kanematsu Corporation is a trading company with sales of $46 billion, which will distribute LaserMaster's product through Kanematsu's Business Links, Ltd. subsidiary. Phoenix International Ltd. is a specialized distributor of computer peripherals which has worked with LaserMaster in testing and configuration of a Japanese language typesetter product.
Mel Masters, LaserMaster's CEO, is pleased with the initial success of LaserMaster's Unity 1200XLJ in Japan. "We introduced a special Japanese language version of our large format Unity typesetter in January of 1993. Since then, with the help of Phoenix and Kanematsu, we have achieved sales to date in excess of $1.3 million. This is a significant contribution to our business."
According to Masters, the demand for typeset quality printing is significant in the Japanese market. "The precision and detail of Japanese language characters really show off the benefits of LaserMaster's TurboRes resolution enhancement. This means that our Unity 1200XLJ stands out for professional desktop publishing in the Japanese language. In Japan, as in the rest of the world, our objective is to be 'the professional's choice' for plain-paper typesetting."
LaserMaster Technologies, Inc. designs, manufactures and markets plain-paper typesetting, large format color, and specialized Windows printing systems for professional graphic arts, pre-press and desktop publishing users. LaserMaster distinguishes its product line by proprietary software and hardware engineering, including the company's patented TurboRes(R) resolution enhancement and ColorSpan color management and image enhancement technologies.
