LANTRONIX TARGETS LOW END OF MARKET WITH SECOND GENERATION TERMINAL/PRINT SERVERS

LANTRONIX TARGETS LOW END OF MARKET WITH
 SECOND GENERATION TERMINAL/PRINT SERVERS
LAGUNA HILLS, Calif., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Lantronix, which established a 30 percent reduction in low-end terminal server pricing with the introduction of its ETS-8 in 1989, is doing it again with its second-generation product line.
Sixteen terminal/print server models are being announced, including the ETS8 and ETS16, for connecting 8 or 16 serial terminals, printers, modems, or peripherals to an Ethernet network; and the EPS4 and EPS12, which have four or 12 serial lines plus one Centronix/Dataproducts-compatible port. Each type is available with or without Flash PROMs. All are compatible with the industry- standard TCP/IP networking protocol and with DEC's LAT.
Memory size has been doubled to 1MB to improve processing of applications like multiple virtual sessions.
Support for SLIP (Serial Line Interface Protocol) has been added, and support for SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) has been expanded to cover several more Management Information Bases, including MIB II, character MIB, RS232-like MIB and "parallel-like" MIBs.
To make it all easy, a set-up menu has been added, and to make it secure, a dial-back software option. Then, to make customers feel more comfortable, warranties have been extended to five years.
Prices begin at $995 for a five-line with four serial ports and one parallel port. Deliveries will be from stock.
The server platform will also be the basis for several new Ethernet products to be announced later this year. (In addition to the servers, Lantronix already manufactures a line of Ethernet repeater, transceiver, and converter products.)
