LANTRONIX ANNOUNCES 'UNIVERSAL' ETHERNET PRINT SERVER

LANTRONIX ANNOUNCES 'UNIVERSAL' ETHERNET PRINT SERVER
LAGUNA HILLS, Calif., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Local area network

users now can use the same Ethernet print server whether they are attaching their printers to networks using Novell's NetWare, AppleTalk, TCP/IP or DEC's LAT protocol -- or all of them simultaneously.
Small, simple and multiprotocol, the EPS1 Print Server solves compatibility problems before they occur, making it easier for users to change their networks, add new network protocols or move their printers from one network to another.
The EPS1 provides both a Centronics/Dataproducts compatible parallel port and an RS423/RS232C serial port on the printer side, and both 15-pin AUI and RJ45 10BASE-T connectors on the network side -- all in 3 by 5.25 by 1 inches. Printers on the serial and parallel ports can be active simultaneously, and optional transceivers are offered for connection to thin (10BASE2) or thick (10BASE5) networks.
The EPS1's features include data rates to 56Kbps serial and 40KB parallel, Flash Prom, 7 LEDs for monitoring its functions, hardware and software flow control and partial modem control (should a user wish to substitute an outgoing modem in place of a serial printer).
Part of Lantronix's "Next Generation" product line, the EPS1 has been assigned what the company considers "next generation" pricing as well, at $695. A 6-foot Centronics parallel cable is included.
Lantronix also offers larger printer/terminal servers with up to 16 serial lines, Ethernet repeaters/hubs for thin coax and twisted pair lines and a family of transceivers and converters.
