LADY Archer yesterday won her High Court battle against her former personal assistant.

Mr Justice Jackson ruled that the 58-year-old wife of shamed peer Jeffrey Archer was entitled to a wide- ranging injunction against Jane Williams, her employee for 13 years until her dismissal in November 2001.

The ruling prevents Williams publishing details about the Archers' private lives.

The judge also ruled that Lady Archer was entitled to damages of pounds 2500.

Lady Archer alleged that Williams, 49, was the indirect source of a newpaper story in 2002 about her facelift and her friendship with Professor Stephen Feldberg.

Williams, once described by Lady Archer as her "right hand", had accepted her former boss was entitled to an injunction but had challenged its scope. It was claimed by Lady Archer's lawyers that Williams supplied documents to, and signed lucrative agreements with, various newspapers.

Counsel Thomas Linden described it as "an appalling breach of trust".

But Williams said she saw nothing wrong with digging herself out of debt by writing - like Lord Archer.

Williams has an pounds 85,000 legal bill outstanding and was said by the judge to be in "a state of penury".
