LADBROKE RACING CORPORATION ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS

 MEADOW LANDS, Pa., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Ladbroke Racing Corporation announced today the appointment of John M. Swiatek as vice president of operations for Ladbroke Racing Pennsylvania.
 The appointment coincides with the announcement that John R. Long, who held the position, has been moved up to president and chief operating officer for Ladbroke Racing Corporation.
 The appointment of Swiatek is retroactive to Dec. 1, 1992. He previously held the position of vice president and general manager of Ladbroke at The Meadows, a position he has had since January 1989.
 The company also announced the appointment of Randy Edmonds as general manager retroactive to Dec. 15, 1992. Edmonds, age 38, joined The Meadows in 1983. He first worked in Call-A-Bet and was later appointed Call-A-Bet manager. He also served in the position of operations manager before he was named assistant general manager in 1991. He is a graduate of Trinity High School and Waynesburg College.
 Swiatek, age 35, joined The Meadows in 1983. He is a 1975 graduate of South Hills Catholic High School and graduated from Duquesne University and Robert Morris College. He resides in Upper St. Clair, Pa., with his wife and three children.
 During his four years as general manager, Ladbroke at The Meadows has undergone substantial change and substantial growth. Although off-track wagering has been center stage, The Meadows operation has undergone millions of dollars in capital improvements, positive changes in the racing product, historic agreements with the Meadows' horsemen and Swiatek also engineered continued growth of the television show and Call-A-Bet. Currently Ladbroke employs over 1,000 people and in 1992 wagering was $181 million within the Ladbroke-Pennsylvania system.
 Swiatek holds positions with the United States Trotting Association and Harness Tracks of America. He is also a member of the Washington County Council on Economic Development and a trustee on the Sports Arena Employees Local 137 Pension Fund and a director for Big Brothers and Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh.
