LADBROKE AT THE MEADOWS PUTS TOGETHER 'CHEAPEST RACE POSSIBLE'
MEADOW LANDS, Pa., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Ladbroke at The Meadows has put together the cheapest race possible, a track spokesman said today. That's right -- the track said it has put together a $3,000 Claiming Pace for invited horses only, all in an attempt to give Treboh Joe a fighting chance to win for driver/trainer/owner/groom Willie Mitchell Jr. Treboh Joe has lost 181 straight times, dating back to 1986, and holds both the North American and world record for the most losses in a row by a race horse, the spokesman said. In two starts at The Meadows in very cheap $3,000 claiming races, Treboh has lived up to his reputation and has finished last. The morning line for Thursday night's first race has Treboh Joe at 6-1, generosity indeed from the track morning line guru, the spokesman said. "I would say at least 10-1 and maybe 15-1 is more like it," said track spokesman Bob Sabot. "I don't know what more we can do ... we're giving him on heck of a chance on Thursday night. I don't think from a competition point of view we can do any more!" Treboh Joe jogged in front of television cameras at the track on Monday and seemed to enjoy the attention he was getting. However, when asked to stand in the winner's circle to complete that television production piece, Treboh Joe refused. "You might say the winner's circle was foreign territory to Joe," the spokesman said. -0- 1/19/93 /CONTACT: Bob Sabot of Ladbroke at The Meadows, 412-225-9300/
