 TO PRESTIGIOUS OSHA ADVISORY COMMITTEE
 ALISO VIEJO, Calif., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Orange County builder/developer Kathryn G. Thompson has been appointed as an employer representative on the U.S. Department of Labor's Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health, Washington, D.C.
 Thompson becomes the first residential home builder appointed in the committee's 22-year history. Her appointment was announced Wednesday by the Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
 Thompson is chief executive officer of Kathryn G. Thompson Development Co., which she founded in 1968. The Aliso Viejo-based firm is involved in the development, building, management and investment of residential, commercial and industrial real estate in Southern California.
 She is also chairman and chief executive officer of Detention Services of California, a new company which will build and operate jails and prisons at the local, state and federal level.
 Thompson will be joining 10 other new members of the 15-member OSHA committee, which will be advising the secretary of labor on matters dealing with the setting of construction standards and policy matters affecting federally financed or assisted construction pursuant to the Contract Work Hours and Safety Standards Act, and with the setting of construction standards pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.
 Dorothy L. Strunk, OSHA's administrator and acting assistant secretary of labor, said the committee will meet May 19-20 at the U.S. Labor Department, Washington, D.C., to receive updates on various construction-related projects.
 The committee also advises OSHA on standards and policies related to the protection of construction workers from workplace hazards. It consists of five representatives each of employers and employees, two representatives of state government, two public representatives and one federal representative. Members will serve for two years.
