 L.D. WOODDY ELECTED DIRECTOR OF BOARD AT THE COASTAL CORPORATION
 HOUSTON, May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- L.D. Wooddy Jr. has been elected a director of The Coastal Corporation (NYSE: CGP).
 Wooddy, 65, who retired in 1986 as president of Exxon Pipeline Company after 39 years with various units of Exxon, received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Rice University in 1948.
 The Houston native joined Humble Oil and Refining Co. (later Exxon) as a petroleum engineer on graduation, rising through a number of engineering and management positions, including serving as producing advisor for Europe and Africa in Exxon's producing coordination department in New York and later as deputy manager of Exxon's producing department.
 He also served as general manager of Exxon USA's supply department during the early 1970s, with responsibility for selecting and acquiring crude oils to supply Exxon USA's five domestic refineries.
 In 1976 he became general manager of Exxon USA's natural gas department and president of Exxon Pipeline Company in 1978.
 Wooddy is active in the American Petroleum Institute and the Association of Oil Pipelines, and holds membership in the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
 The Coastal Corporation is a Houston-based energy holding company. Coastal has consolidated assets of more than $9 billion and subsidiary operations in natural gas transmission and storage, refining and marketing, oil and gas exploration and production, coal, chemicals, trucking and independent power production.
