L.A. FIESTA BROADWAY RESCHEDULED TO MAY 30 AS 'UNIDOS L.A.' TO CELEBRATE ETHNIC DIVERSITY

LOS ANGELES, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- This year's "L.A. Fiesta Broadway" downtown street festival will provide the setting to celebrate the city's rich ethnic diversity under the theme of "Unidos L.A." on a rescheduled date of May 30.
Nearly a million people are expected to attend the fourth annual edition of the free event which is held in the historic Broadway district of downtown Los Angeles.
"The major sponsors all agreed that Fiesta Broadway could serve as a unifying force to celebrate the city's strong multicultural tradition," said Michael G. Martinez, vice president and general manager of KMEX-TV. "In that light, we thought it was most appropriate to move the event to the Memorial Day weekend when the Rodney King verdict was behind us and L.A. was ready to move on in its rebuilding process."
Fiesta Broadway is sponsored by KMEX-TV (Univision), the City of Los Angeles and Miracle on Broadway. The event was planned for Sunday, April 25.
"Fiesta Broadway is a time when families can come to downtown and enjoy a day of free entertainment and family fun. But we also believe it can help launch a new spirit of unity among all groups in the city," Martinez said.
Mario Proenza, L.A. Fiesta Broadway executive producer, expressed confidence in the participation of the major entertainers scheduled to perform, including Jose Feliciano, Gloria Trevi and Willie Colon.
"We have had a positive response from everyone involved, including sponsors, talent, and other participants, who are all eager to join us in leading Los Angeles back on the road to recovery," Martinez added.
L.A. Fiesta Broadway is the country's largest Cinco de Mayo celebration, attracting more than half a million people to the city's 36-block downtown Broadway area. This year's event will feature eight stages with more than 100 top-name Latino stars, food and product booths, games, rides and other attractions.
