L'ENFANT **** 12A.

THE winner of the Palme D'Or at last year's Cannes Film Festival is another pared-down snapshot of bleak, modern life from Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne (directors of Rosetta and The Son). Sonia (Deborah Francois) has just had a baby.

The boy's dad, Bruno (Jeremie Renier), has no sense of responsibility. These two lovers behave more like children than parents. When Bruno decides to sell his newborn son, it's just the latest in a long line of scams. This is guilt and redemption at everyday street level.
