Kyrgyzstan to commemorate 100th anniversary of 1916 events.
The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan adopted a resolution on the
commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the events of 1916 at the
plenary session on October 24. The organizing committee will be
established, which will develop a plan for the commemorative events,
according to the resolution. The relevant instructions were given to the
Government of Kyrgyzstan. Thus, the commemorative events will supposedly
include research-to-practice conference to study the history of
Kyrgyzstan; reburial of the remains of victims of the 1916 events in
compliance with all religious rites attracting Muslim and Orthodox
clergy; marathon to raise funds for a monument installation and other
activities. In 1916, civil commotion took place in the northern regions
of Kyrgyzstan leading to the tragic deaths of many innocent people.
However, this event hasn't been comprehensively and objectively
investigated yet. 42% of the Kyrgyz died during the civil commotion, its
suppression and further move of the people to China, according to the
Great Encyclopedia of the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic of 1979.
