Kyrgyzstan political faction comments on detention of its member in Kazakhstan.
The reports on detention of member of Kyrgyz Parliament Damirbek Asylbek uulu in Kazakhstan was surprising for the Kyrgyzstan political faction, it said in a statement on Monday.
The faction said it has held an extra-ordinary meeting on this matter.
"Damirbek Asylbek uulu is an active member of the Kyrgyzstan faction, he's made a huge contribution to the development of sports performing on behalf of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in the wrestling competitions. He is an active lawmaker focused on the solution of social and economic problems of the regions," the statement said.
Additionally, the faction said that "according to preliminary information, the lawmaker has no relation to charges he is being accused of."
"The Kyrgyzstan faction is closely working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant law enforcement bodies. We believe that the matter will be investigated by Kazakh authorities in line with laws not violating the rights of citizens of Kyrgyzstan," the faction said.
37-year-old Damirbek Asylbek uulu is a member of the Kyrgyz Parliament from the "Kyrgyzstan" political faction. He is also a Vice President of the Wrestling Federation of Kyrgyzstan.
On February 17, the Kazakh General Prosecutor's Office said the security and anti-corruption authorities have held large-scale simultaneous special operations in Almaty, Zhambyl, South Kazakhstan regions and the city of Almaty on February 15-16 in order to tackle illegal activities in the near-customs sphere and strengthen fight against organized criminal groups engaged in smuggling in the border areas of the country.
