Kyrgyzstan almost does not have cases when MPs betray their colleagues -- MP Tekebaev.

Kyrgyzstan almost does not have cases when MPs betray their colleagues, said Ata Meken faction leader Omurbek Tekebaev at the meeting of Parliament deputies, experts and representatives of civil society on deputy immunity discussion on June 27, 2012. Talking about immunity of deputies, MP reminded that members of the Constitutional Council stated that the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan is made based on European standards and does not match realities of Kyrgyzstan. "However, new political system matches Kyrgyzstan conditions perfectly. It was very well adopted. One of the examples is limited immunity. Majority of citizens proposed to give up on parliamentary immunity. Kyrgyzstan almost does not have cases when MPs betray their colleagues," said Tekebaev. Kyrgyzstan introduced limited immunity and it was hard to convince constitutional chamber to approve it, said Tekebaev and added that "We were able to do it, as immunity is important. We introduced immunity institute, but law enforcement bodies can bring deputies to criminal liability for grave breaches of the law." The list of those crimes is short, but if this provision did not exist, MPs would be brought to liability even for being rude, explained MP. "For this reason, we eliminated minor cases and a niche to abuse the power, as not everyone is guilty in grave crimes," said Ata Meken leader. At the end, Tekebaev noted that the Parliament will not betray its deputy, which was illustrated by recent case. He added that Prosecutor's Office should have initiated criminal case under different article.
