Kyrgyz citizen to be sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for obstruction in Boston terrorist attack investigation.
Kyrgyz ?itizen Khairullojon Mamatov, who, according to the US authorities, misinformed law enforcement officials investigating the attack in Boston in 2013, will be sentenced to two and a half years in prison, the Associated Press reported.
The verdict will be announced in court in Boston. Matanov in March pleaded guilty for misinforming the investigators, as well as removing the files, which could be relevant, from the laptop.
The young man made a deal with the investigation, under which the prosecution agreed to seek for a more lenient sentence. Before he could face a sentence of up to 20 years.
According to prosecutors, Matanov, who lived in Quincy (Massachusetts) and worked as a taxi driver, was a friend of Tsarnayev brothers. Shortly after the explosions at the Boston Marathon, he came to the police and said that he knew the brothers.
However, he did not say that he had a dinner with them a few hours before the bombings in Boston. In this regard, in May 2014, Matanov was arrested. He initially protested his innocence.
