Kyrgyz Ministry of Health to hold measles immunization among 1-6 year-old children in September.

The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan is planning to hold measles immunization among 1-6 year-old children this September. Health professionals pay a special attention to population living in residential neighborhoods on Bishkek suburbs as children and parents come to the capital city from different regions for summer period. Immunization cards of children were examined by physicians of Family Medicine Centers across the country. According to the Ministry of Health, 179 measles cases were confirmed by lab tests from April 2011: 18 cases in Osh, 55 in Osh oblast, 52 in Bishkek, 18 in Jalal-Abad oblast, 14 in Chui oblast, 8 in Naryn oblast, 1 in Batken oblast and 1 in Talas oblast. No new measles cases are registered in the country since July 10, 2011, the Ministry of Health said. To detect measles viruses, the analyses (swabs from the upper respiratory tract, blood serum) are sent to the Gabrichev Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in Moscow.
