---------- MRI plans suit against Japan's FSA over fraud allegation

TOKYO - U.S. asset manager MRI International Inc. is planning to file a suit against Japan's Financial Services Agency over its allegation that MRI conducted fraudulent practices, sources close to the matter said Tuesday.

MRI unveiled the plan in an e-mail message sent to its Japanese customer investors early Tuesday morning and some of these investors made inquiries to their lawyers, they said.

---------- Tokyo stocks end higher on Japan recovery hopes, halt in yen's climb

TOKYO - Tokyo stocks ended higher Tuesday supported by hopes of an economic recovery in Japan and a halt in the yen's climb against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average closed up 120.47 points, or 0.82 percent, from Monday at 14,778.51. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 6.19 points, or 0.51 percent, at 1,222.72.

---------- Aso eager to craft extra budget before sales tax hike

TOKYO - Finance Minister Taro Aso expressed his eagerness Tuesday to craft an extra budget to prevent a planned sales tax hike next April from dragging down the economy.

"We should limit the impact (of the tax hike) on the economy. We need to consider compiling a supplementary budget" early next year, Aso said at a press conference.

---------- Driver pleads partially guilty on charges over fatal bus accident

MAEBASHI, Japan - The driver of a tour bus who caused a fatal accident on an expressway in April 2012 pleaded partially guilty of professional negligence Tuesday, saying he did not feel drowsy while at the wheel but had not had sufficient sleep.

Kazan Kono, 45, entered the partially guilty plea during the first hearing of his trial at the Maebashi District Court.
