TOKYO - Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. succeeded in test drilling of shale oil at the Ayukawa oil and gas field in northeastern Japan, company officials said, extracting such oil for the first time in the country.

TOKYO - Sumitomo Corp. said it has invested in a 550-megawatt solar power project under construction in the California desert in conjunction with its U.S. subsidiary, marking its first investment in U.S. solar projects and expanding its renewable energy portfolio.
