Kylycdaroy-lu:It's great shame that 32 journalists are imprisoned in 21st century.

ySTANBUL (CyHAN)- Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kylycdaroy-lu, who visited arrested Cumhuriyet Editor-in-Chief Can DE-ndar and Ankara bureau chief Erdem GE-l in ystanbul's Silivri Prison on Sunday, later said it is a great shame for Turkey that 32 journalists are imprisoned in the 21st century.

Kylycdaroy-lu spoke to the press in front of Silivri Prison after visiting the imprisoned journalists along with a committee including CHP Deputy Chairman GE-rsel Tekin and CHP ystanbul provincial branch Chairman Murat Karayalcyn.

"We met with our two journalist friends who were imprisoned for covering accurate news. We need democracy, we need freedoms. The detention or arrest of journalists over a news report is unquestionably wrong and unacceptable. Our two friends [DE-ndar and GE-l] are in good spirits. Right now, there are currently 32 journalists in prison. It's a great shame for Turkey that 32 journalists are imprisoned in the 21st century. Turkey has turned into a semi-open prison. Personal rights are being violated. It seems like democracy is suspended. We demand those 32 journalists be released," Kylycdaroy-lu said.
