Kuwait desires to bolster ties with Romania -- ambassador.

| By Abdulwaheb El-Gueyed (with photos) BUCHAREST, April 1 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Ambassador to Romania Fahad Hajar Al-Mutairi has expressed satisfaction at level of Kuwaiti-Romanian relations, noting these ties have been improving further in political and economic and cultural sectors.

In a statement to KUNA, Al-Mutairi said the Kuwaiti embassy in Bucharest would hold, on April 8, a reception marking the 50th anniversary of establishment of the Romanian-Kuwaiti ties. The broad gathering, to be attended by many Romanian and Kuwaiti officials and dignitaries, would be marked with presentation of cultural and folkloric activities, he said.

The planned activities will include a show by the Kuwait Television Troupe, display of paintings by famous Kuwaiti artists, a photo gallery, and display of Kuwaiti dhows and works of craftsmen. The Romanians, for their part, will participate with folkloric shows.

Al-Mutairi said the two countries had signed several agreements for media, cultural, and educational cooperation and tax exemptions. "We are looking forward to elevating level of commercial cooperation with greater mutual investments," he added. However, he said progress at this level was being hindered with certain Romanian legal obstacles that discourage the Kuwaiti investor from launching businesses in the country.

Some 800 Romanians currently work in the oil and health sectors in Kuwait.

The ambassador added that the Romanians have a great desire to participate in ventures as part of the Kuwaiti development strategy. "I urge the Romanians to benefit from this plan for which huge funds have been earmarked and I would like to remind them that there is competition among international conglomerates to take part," he said, also noting that the Kuwaiti side had informed the Romanians about details of the Kuwaiti state strategy.(end) amg.rk KUNA 010912 Apr 13NNNN
