Kuwait: Equate Petrochemicals giant temporarily halts one of its produciton units.

Kuwait: August 2 -- (BNA) Kuwait's petrochemical giant (Equate) has temporarily suspended operations in one of its production units for Ethylene Glycol for an approximate period of six weeks, and stated that the reason was that its total production output from this unit has recorded 550 metric tons per annum.

The company issued a statement quoted in the Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA) today that the reasons for suspension of work in the unit is due to a fire that had erupted in the unit last Tuesday, asserting that the company production operations shall continue in the other industrial units non-stop and without impact.

Equate Petro-chemicals Company was established in 1995 under a joint venture comprising international companies: the Petro-chemicals Manufacturing Company, DOW Chemicals, Boabyan Petrochemicals and Al-Gorayn Petrochemicals Industrial Company.

The company began its operation in November 1997. Now it is the sole operator of an integrated group of factories which produce more than 5,000,000 tons of high-quality ISO petrochemical substances and markets them in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe. (IY)
