Under the Patronage of H.E Bassem Al Rousan, Kulacom Jordan yesterday held a lavish ceremony on the roof of its headquarters on the 8th circle to announce the official launch of its advanced telecommunications network in Jordan, attended by leading members of Jordan's ICT industry in addition to a Korean delegation led by the Chairman of Korea's Communications Commission (Mr. Shi Joong Choi) and the Chairman of the SK Group (Mr. Shin Won Choi).

During the launch ceremony, a live WiMAX demonstration was carried out, showcasing the capabilities of Kulacom's WiMAX Internet service, which promises to provide home and business users with high-speed and high-bandwidth Internet services at significantly reduced costs.

Kulacom Jordan has collaborated with one of the leading communications technology companies in the world, known as SK Telecom (SKT) of Korea, the pioneers of WiMAX technology and the market leaders of "next generation networking", with the aim of providing private and corporate users in Jordan with the latest next generation networking technologies to deliver better, faster and more reliable telecommunications solutions.

Eng Basem Rousan, Minister of Information and Communications Technology emphasized that today's event will go a long way in advancing competition in the fixed line sector in the Kingdom and achieving one of the main objectives of the national ICT strategy: Increasing Internet user penetration to 50% by 2012. He also referred to his meeting with His Excellency Mr. Shi-Joong Choi earlier in the day where they discussed areas of cooperation in capacity building and increasing the Kingdom's IT exports.

Mr. Hazim Alaeddin, Kulacom Jordan's Chief Executive Officer, stated, "Our objective is simple. We want to provide people with an affordable and simpler way of connecting to the Internet, enabling them to explore the infinite resources it has to offer and providing people the opportunity to learn, to create, to innovate, to share ideas, to build understanding, and to communicate."

Mr. Alaeddin went on to say, "The telecommunications market in Jordan has become extremely competitive, so it is important for us to stand out, which we will achieve by offering our customers something different. To begin with, we have partnered with the pioneers in the industry, SK Telecom. Korea has the most advanced telecommunications sector in the world and serves as a shining example to us all of what is possible and what we should aspire to create. Using their expertise and vast experience in the field, we are able to provide our customers with the most advanced network in the region, if not the world."

Alaeddin concluded by saying, "Equally as important -- Kulacom Jordan also strives to offer customers in Jordan with an exceptional and comprehensive customer service -- we provide our customers with a focused approach to communications solutions rather than the race to contract approach--we truly listen to our customers, find out their requirements and design a solution that best meets those needs."

The company recently announced the launch of the world's first end to end wireless Wave II network, a next generation wireless communications technology that enables superior performance, enhances the reliability of transmission speed, controls bandwidth to guarantee the minimum and maximum per user, and is fully portable and nomadic. Recognized as the latest network technology and the best wireless broadband standard for portable devices, the Wave II network will provide Kulacom's customers with unparalleled capabilities in addition to providing Kulacom with added network capacity for the support of a wide range of value-added services.

Kulacom Jordan launched its WiMAX service in March, offering customers a wide range of packages to choose from in order to select the service most suitable to their needs according to bandwidth speeds, subscription terms and budget.

Kulacom Jordan was awarded a 3.6 GHz frequency license in January 2008, positioning the communications operator at the forefront of wireless next generation technology. Kulacom will provide customers with the latest in wireless telecommunications including WiMAX, pre-paid Voice, Data storage and Data management services.

Kulacom, registered under the name MetroBeam Wireless Telecommunications Co LLC, s launched in 2006 by Jordanian investors with regional and international experience in the telecommunications sector. Kulacom is an integrated communications operator and the newest Fixed Broadband Wireless Access (FBWA) licensee in Jordan that is leading the transformation into a new era of communication. Recognized as the next generation network wireless broadband service, Kulacom will be the first in the region to offer true real time synchronized and seamless communications capabilities. Kulacom's city wide network currently covers over 30% of the Greater Amman Area, making Jordanians the first in the region to experience true wireless next generation technology.
