CARMEN DE LAVALLADE is the recipient of the American Dance Festival's 2003 Balasaraswati/Joy Ann Dewey Beinecke Endowed Chair for Distinguished Teaching. The honor pays tribute to teachers who have maintained and shaped modern dance across generations. * LANCE WESTERGARD, director of dance at Hofstra University, received the Isadora Duncan International Institute Honorary Certificate in Isadora Duncan studies for his lifelong achievement in dance. www.isadoraduncaninternational * Three Arizona Choreography Competition awards went to graduate dance students of ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY'S HERBERGER COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS. Min Kim, Brad Garner, and Kimberly Karpanty received cash awards and will see their work fully produced. * MARCUS ALFORD AND ANNIE DAY received the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters Artistic Achievement Award for contributions to the dance education field. The couple owns and directs Dancentre South Studios, Inc. in suburban Atlanta and produces the annual Atlanta Jazz and Tap Dance Festival. 770.516.7229 * Dance students of the UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, IRVINE, CLAIRE TREVOR SCHOOL OF THE ARTS traveled to Paris and performed at the Danses de Mai festival at the Conservatoire de Paris under the direction of David Allan, associate professor of dance. * THE ASSOCIATION OF INSTITUTE FOR AESTHETIC EDUCATION, INC. received $65,000 from the NEA to train teaching artists--professional artists who work in the schools. The Teaching Artist Mentoring Project is a two-to three-year program modeled on the arts-and-education program of New York's Lincoln Center Institute to develop and launch a series of workshops scheduled for September 2004 to June 2005.
