Kosice airport served almost half a million passengers last year.

The airport in southeast Slovakia calls the year 2017 the most successful in connecting this part of the country with other regions and countries, also thanks to new lines.Kosice Airport evaluates 2017 as its most successful year in terms of connecting eastern Slovakia to other places, the airport's marketing manager Juraj Toth, told the TASR newswire on January 9.

Last year, 496,708 passengers passed through Kosice Airport, an increase of 13.7 percent or 60,012 passengers compared to 2016. A total of 373,406 passengers used regular flights, while 121,230 travelled on charter flights.The largest share in the increase was posted by charter flights, where the number of passengers grew by 35,410, or 41.3 percent year-on-year.

"There was an increase of 24,427 passengers in the regular transport segment, which means 7 percent," Toth said, as cited by the newswire. "The busiest day of the year was August 23, with 3,621 passengers served.

The total maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of all aircraft handled last year was 170,032 tonnes, up 11.3 percent. Kosice Airport dealt with 106 tonnes of air cargo last year, an increase of 20.5 percent.
