Kortec introduces multi-layer, clear plastic can.

New multi-layer coinjection technology from Kortec, inc., Rowley, Mass., produces clear plastic cans for food packaging. The three-layer PP/EVOH/PP cans provide a see-through alternative to metal cans while accepting traditional double-seamed steel or aluminum can ends hermetically sealed to the plastic flange. Introduced at last month's Interpack exhibition in Dusseldorf, Germany, these cans reportedly have been tested and accepted for retorting at up to 130 C (265 F) and provide shelf life of up to 5 yr. The new Klear Can also adapts to existing metal-can filling, seaming, and retorting lines with no need for new downstream equipment.

Kortec offers total coinjection systems and Klear Can molds for up to 32 cavities and options for colored cans, in-mold labels, or standard labels. The first Klear Can introduction is the commonly used 42 cl size with a 75 mm end. Total can height is 110 mm. Kortec is ready to work with companies that require other sizes. Kortec was acquired by Milacron LLC, Cincinnati, earlier this year.
