Korea Republic of : GEs First 7HA Gas Turbine in Korea Achieves Commercial Operation Eight Weeks Ahead of Schedule at Anyang Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant Unit 2-1.
GE announced that commercial operation was recently achieved at GS Powers Anyang Combined Heat and Power Plant Unit 2-1 in Anyang City, Gyeonggi Province of Korea, using one GE 7HA.02 gas turbine, one GE D652 steam turbine, one heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and plant control system.
This important milestone was achieved eight weeks earlier than scheduled thanks to the 7HA gas turbines innovative modular architecture and constructability. With pre-assembled modules, 7HA gas turbine requires fewer skilled work hours, reducing installation time and cost, and providing simpler and faster serviceability over time.
Anyang CHP is GEs first HA gas turbine delivered to and commercially operated in Korea, demonstrating GEs execution capability for extended scope projects to meet Korean customers demand.
GS Power and GE have collaborated closely over the last several years to replace Anyang CHPs 26-year-old plant with cleaner and more efficient power generation technology, and 7HA.02 gas turbines and D652 steam turbines were chosen as the best technology that would serve the needs for electricity and district heating. GEs HA gas turbines are the worlds largest and the most efficient gas turbines, offering low life cycle cost of electricity generation for 60Hz customers. Particularly for Anyang, the steam turbines play an important and active role to meet the district heating demand.
Eung-Hwan Kim, Vice-President of GS Power, said, This is a meaningful project that will increase the efficiency at Anyang CHP through the adoption of GEs superior 7HA technology. We will continue to partner with GE for the success of the unit 2-2 renewal project, to ensure a stable supply of heat in the Anyang region.
Through the modernization of Anyang combined heat plant, the plant is set to achieve more than thirteen points of additional efficiency for electricity generation and eight points of additional efficiency for district heating respectively. GEs 7HA.02 gas turbine, GE D652 steam turbine, heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), and plant control system will also be installed at Anyang CHP unit 2-2.
Woonsik Ha, executive leader of GE Power in Korea said, We are proud to be partnering with GS Power, to support highly efficient power generation at Anyang CHP with our HA technology, and to add value by reducing installation time and cost for our customers. We will continue to create more value for our customers in Korea by delivering cleaner, safer and more efficient power systems they need.
GEs HA gas turbines are the fastest growing fleet of gas turbines in the world, with 28 HA gas turbines achieving more than 140,000 hours of proven experience globally. The HAs fuel flexibility accommodates a wide range of gas and liquid fuels, including high ethane, propane and inert gas.
