Korea Republic of,United States : SAMSUNG to fully operate its new production line for 3-D NAND flash memory in late 2016.

South Korean conglomerate Samsung Electronics is reportedly getting ready to start complete operations of a production line for 3-D NAND flash memory at its manufacturing facility located at Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province.

The tech major has reportedly signed deals with local manufacturing companies to set up processing equipment and tools for 3-D NAND flash memory chips at its chip production line, called Line 17 Phase 2, in the Hwaseong City.

The company has made a verbal contract, and it would take a month to build the equipment and tools at the line, revealed media citing an official from one of the contract firms of Samsung as saying.

In view of the above statement, it is anticipated that the Line 17 facility will become fully operational in late 2016.

Samsungs another line up and operating for production of DRAM chips is located at the manufacturing complex in Hwaseong.

Samsung, as per reports, has made 2.5 trillion won (US$2.26 billion) in investment in order to set up the chip production line to ensure fulfillment of the demand for 3-D NAND flash memory chip, which is on the fast rise.

The 3-D NAND flash memory chip puts storage cells vertically in comparison with the usual planar memory chips.

The US-based Apple and Samsung among other high-end super slim laptop makers have embraced the solid state drive storage products, which are powered by the 3-D NAND chips.

The 3-D NAND memory chips are being growingly deployed by the smartphone manufacturers.

Dissimilar to the DRAM chips, the 3-D NAND memory chips do not lose stored data upon switching off the power.

Local chip equipment suppliers have witnessed major growth in their profits in recent times due to the growing use of NAND memory chips.

The revenue of Technology Engine of Science grew 47% to 8.07 billion won, while the firms operating profit improved by 110% to 16.4 billion won.

Eugene Tech, a provider of wafer process devices, has reported over twofold growth in its operating profit for the H1, 2016, to 26.5 billion won from the same period in 2015.
