Konta's revenge; SPORT SHORTS TENNIS.

JOHANNA Konta avenged her shock Australian Open loss by defeating American Bernarda Pera in the opening round of the Qatar Open.

Lucky loser Pera stunned Konta in the second round in Melbourne last month but the world number 11 survived a shaky first set to win 7-6 (7/5) 6-1 in Doha.

Meanwhile, Britain's long wait for a home Fed Cup tie goes on after they were drawn to play away against Japan in the World Group II play-offs in April.

It is the fourth time in the last seven years they have reached this stage - but it is now 25 years since they have had a home tie.
