Kong shot.

Ireland, fresh from their first international Sevens victory in Benidorm last weekend, will be aiming to bag one of the eight qualifying places for next year's Rugby World Cup Sevens finals in Hong Kong.

Richard Wallace's men are the only Five Nations team among 24 sides doing battle this weekend in Lisbon, where the first of three qualifying tournaments for next year's second RWC Sevens finals takes place.

The Irish open the tournament with a game against Hungary tomorrow and go on to meet Norway.

The first day matches will determine which pool each side will go into on Sunday for the proper qualifying rounds, and the eight pool winners will qualify for Hong Kong.

"We needed the practice in Benidorm and we were quite happy with the way things went,'' said Wallace.

"Now it is for real and we must clinch one of those eight places for Hong Kong.''"

Ireland squad: R Wallace (captain), J Topping, D O'Mahony, N Malone, D Humphreys, E Elwood, P Johns, K Dawson, D McBride, B Cronin.
