Konami licensed to make casino machines in Nevada.

TOKYO, Jan. 28 Kyodo

Konami Co. said Friday it and its U.S. subsidiary have obtained a license from the Nevada state government to manufacture casino gambling machines featuring the company's color liquid display technology.

The leading Japanese video game machine maker said it plans to arrange for the subsidiary, Konami Gaming Inc., to assemble components exported from Japan at a plant in Las Vegas, where it will manufacture slot machines, poker machines and horse-racing machines for market in the United States.

The global casino equipment market is estimated at 200 billion yen a year, with the U.S. accounting for half, according to Konami.

The Nevada market, including Las Vegas, is estimated at 50 billion yen a year, it said.

Konami said it and the subsidiary will seek to obtain similar licenses from 10 U.S. state governments, including California.
