Knights of old work up a sweat in the sauna.
TOWELS and beads of sweat are the usual attire for most normal sauna goers - but not these two.
These two brave would-be knights don 75lb of solid steel armour to work up a sweat in a Warwickshire sauna.
Complete with 3 1/2 ft swords, Adrian Warrell and Dave Cadle - who are employed to play knights at Warwick Castle - go for a daily session in the heat.
They regularly stun sauna-users at St Nicholas Park leisure centre in Banbury Road, Warwick, by carrying out exercises in order to get used to working in the searing heat of their armour.
To keep castle visitors entertained they have to mock duel twice a day and for half an hour at a time in all weathers. The sauna is ideal to get them prepared for the sunny summer weather.
Mr Warrell, aged 41, said: "The sword fights are extremely energetic and within minutes you are roasting inside the heavy costumes, especially if it's a hot day.
"Sometimes the metal is so hot you can fry an egg on it and the sweat is absolutely pouring off you.
"There is a danger that you can overdo it and get heat exertion or even collapse because of the heat.
"One day I thought that the only place worse than this to exercise would be a sauna so we decided to give it a try to condition ourselves and were surprised by how well it worked."
Both men, who have been working for the castle for 10 years, manage sit- ups and press-ups in the heat.
Mr Cadle, aged 44, added: "We must have looked quite funny the first time we arrived in our costumes to use the sauna but I think they've got used to us now."
