Knievel has liver transplant.

Motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel was stable last night after receiving a long-awaited liver transplant.

At his family's request, no further details were being released, a Tampa General Hospital spokesman said.

The American stuntman, aged 60, has hepatitis C, which he believes he contracted from one of the many blood transfusions he needed following spectacular crashes in the 60s and 70s.

Knievel broke at least 35 bones and underwent surgery 14 times during his stunt career.

One of his most famous stunts failed when a parachute opened as he was zooming over Idaho's Snake River Canyon in 1974.
