Kmart Giving Tree Celebrates the Magic of Giving

TROY, Mich., Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart invites its customers to celebrate the magic of giving by participating in this year's "Giving Tree" program at all participating Kmart stores and Super Kmart Centers nationwide.

The Giving Tree provides gifts for needy children and seniors in nursing homes during the holiday season. Kmart Community Volunteers work with local nonprofit agencies and nursing homes to identify children and seniors. Festive name tags bearing information about the child or senior decorate this special tree in front of the store.

Shoppers can select a tag from the Giving Tree and register the recipient's name at the participating store. Participants can purchase their gifts and then return the tagged, unwrapped gifts to the Kmart or Super Kmart Center. Kmart will deliver the unwrapped gifts to the nonprofit agencies and/or nursing homes along with wrapping paper the company is donating.

"Giving is the true magic of the holiday season. Kmart is proud to help all the communities we serve by reaching out to those in need during the holidays," said Shawn M. Kahle, Kmart's vice president of corporate affairs.

"More than one million children and seniors have opened gifts at the holidays since our Giving Tree program began a decade ago and we expect to help another 200,000 children and seniors this holiday season," Kahle said.

Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) serves America with 2,143 Kmart and 168 Builders Square retail outlets. In addition to serving all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam, Kmart operations extend to Canada and, through a joint venture, to Mexico.
