Klammer set to hammer rivals; OPEN CHECK.

Byline: Jonathan Kay

KOOGA KLAMMER could hardly have been more impressive on his belated competitive first start at the track last week and David Pruhs's charge can pass a stern test in the opening semi-final of the Henlow Blue Riband over 460m (4.48, live on SIS).

He had been due to race at the Bedfordshire venue as long ago as November 2016 only to have to be withdrawn off-colour from a Track Championship contest but looked very much at home in round one when blasting out to a 3.69sec sectional and standardsetting 27.23sec overall. Clearly that makes him the one to beat in this but the complication is a draw outside Bockos Alfie which can never be regarded as a good make-up given that rival's early speed and oft-inclination to run middle.

Kooga Klammer is taken to rise to the challenge with another fast start but the interesting alternative is Foxwood Boom who is capable of holding a decent early pitch inside Holdem Rio if starting just a little better than last week.

a showdown between top locals Idle Talker and Savana Donie, who finished second and third in the Henlow Derby in October.

Both had to settle for a runnerup spot in the first round behind Holdem Rio and Kooga Klammer respectively but preference today is for the Carol Grasso-trained Idle Talker who is showing just a bit more early spark.

Heat winners Liam Og and Maysmountinous are respected but could be tapped for a bit of early pace by the principals.

Westmead Bear had to settle for second behind littersister and kennelmate Westmead Stream when favourite for a fourrunner Nick Savva's dog can recover losses in a 460m maiden at 6.07.

Layton Boy, whose bid for a four-timer was foiled when upped to A1 company last time, is the obvious danger but the Savva youngster looks to have a good make-up.

Racing concludes with a 460m contest at 6.26 in which Heather Dimmock's Black Eyed Hula can successfully drop in distance.

Second over 550m here two weeks ago, she landed a decent Towcester bitches' competition in December and is capable of quickly clearing All About Class. Open Check nap Westmead Bear 6.07 Henlow
