Kirklees leader hits out over the 'starving of resources'.

Government ministers were today accused of starving Yorkshire of transport funds.

Kirklees Council leader Clr Robert Light today hit out at a snub over cash for investigating ideas to beat traffic congestion.

He said: "This seems to be a deliberate starving of resources to West Yorkshire.

"Had we been the north-east or London we would probably have got more favourable treatment."

Eleven local authorities have joined forces to produce a plan for better travel links across the West Yorkshire region.

The bid for research funding was submitted at the end of July.

Clr Light said: "A robust and vibrant economic and investment strategy has to involve integrated and accessible transport.

"Looking at ways of tackling congestion is crucial to that. The Government's snub is a major setback in that respect."
