Kirklees construction sector firms among the winners.

TWO Kirklees-based construction companies were celebrating after being recognised as the best in the region - landing prizes in the Constructing Excellence Yorkshire & Humber Awards.

The Cubicle Centre and Green Building Store both picked up awards for recent construction projects in Huddersfield and will go on to represent Yorkshire in a national awards ceremony in London later this year.

The Cubicle Centre, based at Ravensthorpe, won the Best of the Best Award and SME of The Year while Golcar-based Green Building Store picked up the Legacy Award for its Stirley Community Farm project.

The Cubicle Centre is a family-run business specialising in the manufacture of toilet cubicles and washroom systems for customers such as schools, stadiums, golf clubs and health centres.

Green Building Store specialises in sustainable building products and is at the forefront of introducing Passivhaus products and design into the UK. It is a specialist manufacturer and supplier of FSC-certified timber windows and doors, water saving products, natural building materials and Passivhaus products.

The awards are run by Constructing Excellence Yorkshire and Humber (CEYH) which is delivered via the Centre for Knowledge Exchange (CKE) at Leeds Metropolitan University. Craig Sewell, director of branding and marketing at The Cubicle Centre said: "SME of the Year in itself was a fantastic surprise, but to win Best of the Best' has really made the last two years' hard work worthwhile. And we haven't finished yet. Watch this space."
