Kirin to brew beer in China and Australia.

Japan's Kirin Brewery plans to produce beer under its label in Australia and China. Kirin is a stakeholder in Australia's Lion Nathan, which will produce Kirin beer in Australia beginning this summer. Lion will also sell Kirin in China later this year.

"Lion Nathan's Sydney plant will produce Kirin's Ichiban shibori label with first-year output projected at 30,000 cases. The output is to be gradually increased," a report in Japan's Nihon Keizai said.

"The company will entrust production to Lion Nathan's Suzhou and Wuxi plants, which are close to the major Shanghai market. Kirin now produces beer in Guangdong through a joint venture with a Taiwanese firm," the newspaper said. "[Kirin] previously prioritized American markets before shifting focus to the Asia-Pacific region in 2000."

Kirin has also arranged for San Miguel to produce its beer in the Phillipines.
