Kipp Reese Koldyke & Co. and Laird Norton Company Form Winona Capital Management; Equity Structure Will Expand Investment Horizon for High Net-Worth Families.

CHICAGO -- Kipp, Reese, Koldyke and Co., in partnership with Laird Norton Company and other investors, announced today the formation of Winona Capital Management LLC, a unique private investment firm with over $110 million of committed capital. Winona Capital will invest its equity in private companies on behalf of high net-worth families and individual investors.

With offices in Chicago and Seattle, Winona Capital Management (WCM), the successor firm to Kipp Reese Koldyke & Co., is focused on generating superior after-tax returns through longer term ownership of growth companies operating in the middle market. WCM's investment strategy is closely aligned with the long-term investment legacy of Laird Norton Company, its largest and founding limited partner. WCM will seek to make minority and controlling investments in leading consumer-driven businesses.

According to WCM Managing Director Laird Koldyke, "We have crafted a unique private equity structure that allows high net-worth families and investors to have direct ownership of companies they will be proud to own beyond the traditional three- to five-year investment horizon."

Laird Norton Company has provided the cornerstone investment to capitalize WCM. According to Laird Norton Company CEO Jeffery Vincent, "We are proud to partner with the principals of Kipp Reese Koldyke & Co. to form Winona Capital Management. WCM's management shares Laird Norton Company's views on the merits of patient equity investing while providing considerable expertise as seasoned private equity investors."

The firm is actively engaged in raising additional capital to build upon its existing $110 million in capital under management. WCM is seeking like-minded family enterprises and high net-worth individuals as investment partners. According to WCM Managing Director Dan Kipp, "Winona Capital is focused on an attractive segment of the marketplace. Our firm's partners each contribute strong experience in operations, transactions and private equity investment management. Our long-term investment approach combined with our experience growing consumer-driven companies provides an opportunity to create exceptional after-tax returns for our investment partners."
