COMEBACK king John Travolta is the toast of Tinseltown again after lifting the top honour at the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards.

Travolta, who has twice rebounded from obscurity and film flops, was presented with the World Artist Award at the fifth annual awards in Los Angeles.

And Mariah Carey - now the most successful female artist of all-time - won the vote for best female pop artist.

Carey struggled to be heard during her acceptance speech over the sheer noise of applause and wolf whistles.

British actress Catherine Zeta-Jones won best female newcomer for Zorro.

Hollywood's A-list celebrities turned out for the Blockbuster awards at the Shrine auditorium, where the Oscars are held.

In just five years, the ceremony has become one of the main events on the showbusiness calendar.

They are widely seen as the people's awards since the customer chooses, unlike the Oscars which are voted on by a select group of insiders.

Nicholas Cage picked up awards for City of Angels and Snake Eyes and Shania Twain was named best female country artist.
