King launches foodstuff distribution operation for Ramadan.

King Mohammed VI launched on Tuesday in the town of Tmara (15km south of Rabat), the tenth edition of the operation of distributing foodstuffs on needy families for the month of holy Ramadan 1429 of the Hegira.aaa This year's operation, which marks the 10th anniversary of the creation of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, will benefit 2.34 million inhabitants in 71 provinces across the country. <p>Beneficiaries are predominantly from the rural areas (over 2 millions), and they include mainly widows, the elderly and the disabled.a Dubbed "Ramadan 1429", the operation has required MAD 60.2mln (over $7.7mln), and will distribute 4,670 tons of flour, 1,868 tons of sugar, 116,75 tons of tea and 467,000 five-litter cooking oil cans.

aa In order to ensure the smooth running of the operation, the Foundation has gathered 5,000 people, including civil servants and volunteer students.a

aa The Foundation also created two Provincial Committees to supervise the operation, which will also be submitted to internal and external checks to be conducted by the Professional Grouping of Moroccan Banks, the Treasury of the Kingdom, and Barid Al Maghrib.
