King inaugurates $ 2mln center for disabled west.

King Mohammed VI inaugurated on Saturday in the Atlantic city of Safi (350 km south of Rabat) the $ 2mln regional branch of the Mohammed VI National Center for the Disabled. <p>aa Named Mohammed Karim Amrani, the center was funded thanks mainly to a grant of MAD 50mln ($ 5.7mln) by former Prime Minister, Mohammed Karim Amrani to the Mohammed V Solidarity Foundation. The remaining amount will be used to finance other regional projects.

aa The center, first initiative to provide the services of the Mohammed VI National Center for the Disabled across Morocco, is considered as a medico-educational, social and professional center.

aa It is aimed to develop the required skills and expertise to ensure the integration of the disabled in the socio-educational and professional fabric, part of a partnership with other players.

aa The center will thus support the medical and educational costs of the disabled, help their families, provide vocational training, and contribute to their social integration.

aa The center is open to the physically handicapped, the cerebral palsied, the people suffering a mild mental handicap, and the mentally deranged and autistic children and teenagers.

aa It is five-pole multifunctional structure that includes poles specialized in medico-social activities, to screen and treat handicaps; socio-educational activities, to provide adapted educational and pedagogical services to handicapped children; and in sports to provide sports for the disabled.

aa As to the poles reserved for association activities and professional activities, they aim respectively to support and pool the efforts of the civil society, and to offer trainings in professions and services to the handicapped.

aa The center is built on an area of 2,700 sq meters, and has an accommodation capacity of 40 beds.
