Healthcare company Kindred Healthcare Inc (NYSE:KND) said on Thursday that it has signed an agreement to acquire the operations of Mercy Continuing Care Hospital for an undisclosed value.

As part of an agreement, Kindred Healthcare Inc acquired Mercy Continuing Care Hospital from SJMDHS LCC, a partnership between Mercy and CHRISTUS Continuing Care.

Located in St. Louis, Missouri, Mercy Continuing Care Hospital is a 54-bed transitional care hospital, which is licensed as a long-term acute care hospital.

Pending regulatory and other approvals, Kindred expects to complete the transaction in the third quarter of 2013.

In conjunction, Kindred plans relocate the proposed acquired operations in the third quarter of 2013 from the current location to Mercy Hospital St. Louis, an 80-acre, 979-bed healthcare campus that contains a heart and vascular hospital, a cancer centre, a comprehensive children's hospital, a surgery centre and a skilled nursing centre.
